The 2025 Guide to Building Your MVP in 8 Weeks
We've helped 50+ startups launch MVPs. The ones that succeed aren't built faster — they're built smarter. Here's our battle-tested 8-week framework.
Week 1-2: Discovery & Scoping
Before writing a single line of code, nail your scope. The #1 reason MVPs fail is building too much. Define your core hypothesis: 'Users will pay for X because Y.' Your MVP should validate exactly that and nothing more.
- Write down the 3 features users can't live without
- Cut everything else — you can always add later
- Define your 3 success metrics (not vanity metrics)
- Choose your tech stack based on speed-to-market, not coolness
Week 3: Design & Wireframes
Design in Figma before coding. Wireframes catch 80% of UX problems at 10% of the cost of fixing them in code. Share with 5 potential users and get feedback. This week saves 2 weeks of rework later.
Week 4-7: Development Sprints
Run 2-week sprints. Each sprint ends with a working demo, not just code. Deploy to a staging environment after every sprint so stakeholders can see progress. Use this discipline: if it's not in the demo, it doesn't exist.
Week 8: Launch Prep & Go-Live
- Performance audit: Lighthouse score > 85
- Security basics: HTTPS, auth, input validation
- Analytics: Install Mixpanel or Posthog to track everything
- Error tracking: Sentry in production
- Onboarding: Make the first 5 minutes magical
- Feedback loop: Add an in-app feedback widget from Day 1
The Most Important Thing
Ship imperfect. A mediocre product in users' hands beats a perfect product on your laptop. Your first 100 users will tell you things no amount of planning could anticipate. Get the product in front of real people as fast as possible.
